NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — August 17, 2024 — The Bethel Threshers volleyball team kicked off their 2024 season with back-to-back victories in a doubleheader at Thresher Gym. The Threshers swept both matches, defeating Oklahoma Panhandle State (OPSU) and Briar Cliff University (BCU) in straight sets to start the season 2-0.
Game 1: Bethel vs. OPSU
In the first match of the day at 2:00 PM, the Threshers dominated with a 3-0 victory over the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies. The Threshers controlled the match from start to finish, taking the sets 25-18, 25-8, and 25-20.
Bethel's offensive efficiency was on full display, hitting an impressive .370 as a team. Leading the charge was Cameron Offerle, who recorded 8 kills on 15 attempts with a .533 hitting percentage. Darla Crow also contributed significantly with 7 kills on 13 attempts, hitting at a remarkable .538 clip.
Setter Mia Roman lead the way with 34 assists. The Threshers' defense was elite, with Jordan Boone and Kylah Carter each contributing 3 blocks, and held OPSU to a .127 hitting percentage.
Game 2: Bethel vs. BCU
In their second match at 6:00 PM, the Threshers faced off against Briar Cliff University and secured another 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 26-24.
Cameron Offerle once again led the way with 14 kills on 39 attempts, while Kylah Carter added 9 kills on 37 attempts. Mia Roman had anoother great game dishing out 38 assists and adding 18 digs.
Maddie Chupp finished the night with 22 digs while Brooke Russell contributed with 9 digs of her own.
