Threshers unable to avoid the big innings as they drop two to York in Nebraska

YORK, Neb. - The Bethel College Thresher Softball team hit the road for one of their furthest from home KCAC Conference doubleheaders. Unfortunately for the Threshers they were unable to avoid the big innings as they gave up a four run inning in game one, a 6-3 loss, and a ten run inning in an 11-2 game two loss.

GAME 1 L, 6-3

The Panthers struck first in the bottom half of the opening frame as they manufactured a run. In the bottom of the second inning, York was able to double their lead to 2-0 with three singles and a walk. Bethel got a run back in the top of the fourth inning when Bailea Crist started the inning off with a double to left center. Brianna Reeves moved Crist over with a fly out that was followed up by a sacrifice fly from Karlie Stephens. The Panthers answered right back by scoring four runs on six hits and an error in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Threshers put together a two-out rally scoring two runs in the top of the 7th inning, but would come up short as they drop the opening contest 6-3.

GAME 2 L, 11-2 (5 inn.)

York once again struck first as they put up one run in the second quarter to take an early advantage. Bethel answered back in the third inning and some as they took a 2-1 lead with a two-RBI double from Lauren Hurd. The Threshers once again conceded another big inning, this time as the Panthers exploded for 10 runs to take an 11-2 lead. BC had chances in both innings to score runs and avoid the run rule, but were unable to push any runs across as they were unable to avoid the sweep in the rubber match.

The Threshers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 12th as they host the Avila Eagles at Allen Wedel Field with first pitch slated for 5:00 PM.
